Divine Love Hospital, Etim Ekpo is one hospital that is a household name when it comes to ‘rural healthcare’ as it gathers for all the health needs of the people in the three Local Government Areas of Etim Ekpo, Ika and Ukanafun. The services of the hospital also cut across other Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State and in the neighboring Rivers and Abia States. Divine Love Hospital was established by His Eminence, Dominic Cardinal Ekandem (Blessed Memory), the then Catholic Bishop of Ikot Ekpene Catholic Diocese in 1983 for the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene. The hospital is co-managed by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love. With a zeal for quality healthcare, the hospital runs round the clock, daily, weekly, monthly and all year round to ensure total availability for our patients. The medical personnel who are professionals in their own rights ranges from the Medical Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacies, Laboratory Scientists, Technicians, Accountants, Medical Record Officers, Community Health Extension Workers, Plumbers, Electricians, Laborers, Drivers, Security Men, Morticians, to Ward Orderlies, etc. These people work hand in hand to render the following services: Outpatient and Inpatient Services, Medical and Surgical Services, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics services, Laboratory and Pharmacy Services, Ultrasound Scanning, Community Medical Outreaches, HIV/TB services, Mortuary/Ambulance Services. Being a village hospital, it is primarily aimed at providing healthcare at an affordable rate for the people of Etim Ekpo, Ika and Ukanafun LGAs and its environs at a much reduced rate and many times free medical healthcare. This is to ensure that no one dies because of the inability to afford healthcare. Viktor Ekanem, a Masters Degree holder in Health Management and Planning was posted to Divine Love Hospital by the Proprietor, Most Rev. Camillus R. Umoh, the Catholic Bishop of Ikot Ekpene Diocese in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria on the 5th of October, 2015 as the Administrator. Since his assumption of office as the Administrator, he has turned around the fortune of the hospital to accommodate all and expand the services of the hospital. There are some notable people tagged “Friends of Divine Love” who come together from time to time to ensure that they pick up hospital bills of the indigent patients. They have been on this for the past three years. Worthy of mention is Mrs. Rita Rasmussen, Engr and Mrs. Jude Nduka, Mr. George Ogiri, Lady Tina Egede, Ms. Ezinne Nnamani, Abraham Chijioke and a host of others.
